Linux Community vs Average Computer Users

I came across to this article written by Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, the five reasons why Linux community doesn’t understand about the average computer users.
Even though there are so many free Linux distributions, but why most of the users still prefer to spend their money either on Windows or Mac? Most of the users are showing the dissatisfactions on many websites, forums or blogs on Windows. But, the Linux market share is still low compared to Windows or Mac.
Why??? :oups2:
1. Not all the users are dissatisfied with Windows
There are many complaints on Windows from the websites, magazines, blogs, and newspapers. However, most of the users get on and user their PC without much difficulty. Besides that, when the users are facing problems, they might start to find solution instead of finding another OS to replace it.
2. Too many Linux distributions
There are many distributions available for Linux Operating System. You can check this out. Most of the users need more time and effort to research and find a suitable Linux version for their usage. It is not like browsers, where we can experience it with simple installations. In fact, Virtual Machines might be needed to test and experiment with the variety of Linux distributions.
3. Compatibility with software and hardware
The compatibility of hardware and software will be another issue of Linux system. Users might having difficulties in getting the drives and probably need some extra effort to configure it. Besides, most of the software available on market is designed for Windows. Therefore, the users need time to switch over and familiarize with the applications.
4. Command line system is no longer popular
Linux users are glad that you can abandon the GUI and go back to command line system in Linux. However, those command line days has gone the way of the dinosaur. (Quote) Now, most of the users are more familiar with the GUI provided.
5. Linux is still too geeky
Linux distributions are getting easier to use especially the Ubuntu version. However, there are much more areas of the OS that are still overwhelmingly geeky, for example the updates. Normal users might find it hard and hardly adapted to the systems.
For me, Linux is good to learn if you wish to know more about the operating system. Ubuntu would be a good choice for the beginners :-)
